Title: The Coffee Shop Support Group
Author:
parsnip_chan
Fandoms: Slayers Next/Mai-HiME
Genres: Humor
Rating & Word Count: 779
Summary: What happens when two evil minions get together to share a cup of coffee? Minor hilarity ensues.
Notes: This was entirely born out of a desire to not write anything of substance and because Nanowrimo demanded I actually write when I didn't want to. Either way, hopefully it amuses someone other than myself ;p It should also be warned that because it's nano, I haven't taken the time to properly beta/flesh it out.
The Coffee Shop Support Group
Nagi sat down in the chair opposite of Xellos and crinkled his nose at the black-haired man. "Do you have to drink that stuff?" Nagi pointedly stared at the cappuccino sitting in front of Xellos.
Xellos took a long drink from the paper cup and licked his lips. His eyes never moved from the book in front of him, "Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars." It looked a little the worse for wear and the plastic cover suggested strongly of a library loan.
Nagi sneered.
"Why are you reading that crap? There are so many other books out there that are actually worth reading." He patted his copy of 'The Count of Monte Cristo." Classic stuff, and very educational. He often took notes from it.
Xellos sighed and closed his book. He wasted several seconds arranging it just so on the table such that it was perfectly perpendicular to himself. Xellos was just as much of a perfectionist as his white gloves proclaimed. There wasn't a speck of dust or coffee on them and Xellos drank a lot of coffee.
"I'm only interested in one book and my dear wife won't let me read it."
Nagi laughed. "That explains the book."
Xellos ignored him in favor of his coffee. He patted his lips with the edge of a napkin and carefully folded it over so that he wouldn't use that particular spot again the next time he drank. "So, how is your girlfriend doing? Are you still seeing Natsuki or has she broken up with you. Again."
Nagi's brow twitched but the smile still stay plastered to his lips. He raised his tea cup to his lips and stared into the liquid as though he could divine some answer from its depths. In some cultures, he could, but Nagi didn't put stock into that type of thing. There were only two laws, his and the OLs and usually they were the same thing, so what did it matter?
"She's staying with Mai at the moment. A woman always needs a shoulder to cry on."
Xellos leaned back in his chair and surreptitiously checked himself out in windowpane behind Nagi. As though Nagi couldn't tell. Xellos always did that. Damn perfectionist. Xellos folded his hands across his lap and assumed the air of concerned counselor. "So why don't you tell me what happened?"
Nagi bit back a reply. He hated his attitude, but what could he do? It was difficult to find friends among other evil minions. So many couldn't think past what their masters expected of them and often died trying to convert one minion to the other's cause.
"She didn't like my answer to her questions. She's starting to get suspicious about my work with the OL. Damn near blew my ear off too." Nagi rubbed his right ear. It still burned. Her bullets had just barely grazed his ear, and that was only because he had stupendous reflexes.
She was a feisty woman alright.
Nagi grinned.
Her cooking could stand some help though, but that's what Mai was for. She didn't like him, but she usually invited him along for dinner once in a while. He smiled dreamily. If only he could convince her to go out with him, but his boss wouldn't take kindly to that.
Minions really did get the shaft sometimes.
"You should probably get that looked at," Xellos said, unfolding from his chair. "Well, I got to get going. Lina's about to get herself into trouble again and while Gourry makes a great babysitter, he's a little dense. He doesn't realize when Lina's got something up her sleeve."
Nagi grimaced. He had been on the end of one of her Ragna Blades before. He refused to visit Xellos' home ever since. There was no way he was going to be the decoy again!
"Whatever. See you next Tuesday?"
Xellos smiled and flicked his empty cappuccino cup into the waste basket bin behind him. "Sure, if you think you can survive until then."
Nagi laughed. "Same to you. I would hate to see what Lina will do to you if she finds out you're still manipulating the scenes behind her back."
"And you should be more careful sneaking out of the house to go see Mashiro and the other HiME's. We don't want any nasty rumors to start spreading to Natsuki's ears now do we?" Xellos waved and walked out of the shop, not giving Nagi a chance to reply.
Nagi sipped his tea again and flipped open his book. There wasn't any hurry, and besides, Fumi was supposed to be here any minute.
