The girl (and boy) who leapt through time (and space)

Yuuri stomped his feet and blew into his cupped hands to warm them. What he wouldn't give for some sunshine, warm weather and a nice game of catch—with no tests to distract him from relaxing. It would at least beat the cold spell quickly overtaking their autumn weather.

"Cheer up Yuuri!" Murata thumped Yuuri on the back. "Only two more days of exams and then we can go back to Shin Makoku." Yuuri cracked a slightly green, lopsided smile. He wasn't sure that was a good thing. Gunter had a whole stack of books ready for him to study, and Gwendal had a stack of papers a kilometer tall for him to sign and date.

"Great," he moaned. Thrusting his hands into his pocket, Yuuri shrugged off Murata's in order to walk into the library for yet another long day of wishing he was elsewhere. Except, the door swung outwards, clipping him in the shoulder and pushing backwards against Murata's chest; doors weren't supposed to do that.

He blushed immediately, hearing Wolfram's voice in his head berating him for touching another man. It was a good thing he wasn't here although Yuuri looked over his shoulder just to make sure.

One could never be too careful (as he had learned the hard way).

"Sorry!" a cheery voice cried out as blue eyes met his as he turned back to face the library. The contact lasted only for a split second before the impression of a yellow backpack and black tresses was left behind as the owner ran past them.

"Inuyasha is so going to kill me if I don't get home soon."

Yuuri stood still for several moments before shaking his head, wondering if he heard the girl mumble correctly.

"C'mon," Yuuri grumbled, edging towards the library door again. "Let's get this over with." Shaking his head, he wondered why that yellow backpack looked so familiar...

Kagome glanced back over her shoulder at the rapidly fading library. She could have sworn she'd seen that boy before. She just couldn't place him, and it really didn't make sense since she wasn't familiar with the school uniform he was wearing. Of course, fighting demons for the sake of jewel shards five hundred years in the past didn't exactly leave her much time to get to know her peers either.

He was probably just a kid who had come to the shrine at some point or another.

Hiking her back-pack up higher on her shoulder, Kagome continued to run down the sidewalk towards home. She was really going to get it for being late this time and he was going to hate it when she told him how many supplementary classes she was required to take already. And she still had more finals to go too.

Groaning, Kagome wondered if she could put a barrier on the well or something, anything for a few days of peace so she could study and actually pass a class. Still, there was always the library, which is why she had been hiding out in there.

Sneaking another glance over her shoulder, Kagome flushed pink. She really wanted to know why the boy had looked so familiar! It's not like he was all that striking and actually rather plain looking with his black hair and just as black eyes. Still, he had something about him that drew the eye. She couldn't get the image of blue iridescence surrounding his aura and a shimmering vortex out of her mind.

It reminded her, just a little, of the time portal. But Inuyasha was the only one she knew of who could cross through it...

She squeaked as arms wrapped around her waist and tossed her up and over his shoulder. Kagome grimaced and gripped the red haori that had magically appeared beneath her hands. Inuyasha hadn't waited after all.

Yuuri grimaced and stepped into the kiddy pool. Murata was already standing there in his school uniform. The water was cold this time of the year and stepping into it required more guts than facing down a horde of shadowy beings.

"Goodbye mom. Goodbye dad!" Yuuri forced a cheerful smile and waved. His classes had gone better than he had hoped but still worse than anticipated, at least from his parents perspective. He could still feel the tongue lashing Shouri had given him about neglecting his studies while he was off gallivanting in another world. Even though he was bound to spend the majority of his life in Shin Makoku as its king, Shouri still expected him to pass all his classes, claiming Yuuri would never know when he needed to draw on the knowledge.

Wasn't this why he had capable advisors like Murata? Yuuri was certain Murata had passed his classes without a hitch. It only stood to reason; the man's memory was impeccable.

At least Shouri had been called away on business before Yuuri's hide was stripped clean rather than just his pride. Turning, Yuuri nodded to Murata. In seconds, they were sucked into the vortex that connected his world to his kingdom. As he passed through the blue transition area, he gasped, water rushing into his lungs.

On the other side of the vortex, Yuuri came face to face with the girl from the other day, carried in the arms of a red-clad…dog?

"What the hell!" he cried, sputtering as his body was pulled into Shin Makoku.

Murata patted his shoulder as Yuuri coughed up water after emerging on the other side.

"It's okay Yuuri. She's just another traveler on her way to another world or time. Did you really expect us to have a monopoly on dimensional travel?"

Yuuri glared.
